FAQs
Will Council be responsible for assessing and approving permits for offshore wind?
No, like on-shore renewable developments, Council will not be responsible for issuing permits for off-shore wind developments.
What is Council’s role?
The declared zone is in Commonwealth waters, where Council has no jurisdiction or decision-making ability.
Council was an active participant in the consultation period, making a submission and meeting with representatives from the Federal Government to convey concerns.
Council also participated in government consultation about offshore wind transmission.
Council’s key role is in advocacy, trying to ensure the best possible outcomes for our communities should developments be approved.
What happens next?
Council will continue to engage with both the State and Federal Governments as well as developers to provide advice on best practice and to advocate for the best possible outcomes for our communities.
What is the point of this survey?
While Council’s role in the approval process is limited, we can advocate strongly on behalf of our community to developers and the Federal and State Government to drive best practice and direct benefits for our communities.
We will use the information gathered from this survey to inform our advocacy efforts and which areas we should be targeting.
Why is the survey only open for two weeks?
We recognise this is a tight timeframe - but we want to have a position informed by our community before the end of April, ahead of discussions with the State and Federal Governments.
