Southern Ocean offshore wind zone

The Federal Government has declared an offshore wind zone 15 kilometres off the coast of Moyne Shire, within Commonwealth Waters.

The declaration follows a period of public consultation and feedback in mid-2023.

Council was not a decision maker in the declaration of this zone - but did make a submission outlining concerns about impacts on the environment, direct economic benefits for the Moyne community and concerns about on-shore transmission infrastructure. You can read the submission in full in the documents section.

Council sought feedback form the community over a 19-day period, concluding April 16, 2024. The feedback received will help form Council's advocacy position on any future developments within the declared zone.

Council will not be a decision maker in any future permits for developments in the zone and has no jurisdiction over the waters in which it is located but will play an important role in advocacy on behalf of the community.
