Council was successful in securing funding through the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to support the development of the Mortlake Recreation Reserve Women and Girls Change Facility project.
This significant investment, combined with the commitment from Philanthropies, the Committee of Management and Council for a total project cost of approx. $890,000, represents an important step towards providing modern, inclusive, and accessible facilities that better support female participation in sport and recreation within our community.
The funding was approved by the Minister for Community Sport, the Hon. Ros Spence MP, and announced on 9 April 2026. The $500,000 State Government commitment (from the 2025–26 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, Community Facilities Stream) complements contributions of $250,000 from Moyne Shire Council and more than $140,000 from the Committee from fund-raising and philanthropic donations.
The project is a great example of well-planned and community-driven infrastructure delivery. The Committee has worked tirelessly over many years to implement the Mortlake Recreation Reserve Masterplan, and with this funding, total investment in capital improvements at the reserve has now exceeded $3 million since 2018.
Following the initial design phase, quotations were sought for architectural services to prepare tender-ready documentation. The project was released for construction tender later in September 2026.
Subject to final approvals and procurement processes, construction is proposed to commence in 2027, delivering improved amenities that will support the growth of women’s and girls’ sport for years to come.
We look forward to sharing further updates as the project progresses.
