Update 13 July 2026
The plaque reinstatement works within the avenue were successfully completed on Wednesday, 8 July 2026.
127 WW1 plaques have now been restored to their designated locations, marking a significant milestone in the completion of the Avenue enhancement works.
As part of the remaining landscape improvements, mulching around the trees will be undertaken over the coming weeks to support tree health, improve moisture retention, and enhance the overall presentation of the avenue.
Additional commemorative landscaping works will also be completed, including the planting of Flanders poppies around the first two trees at the town-side entrance to the Avenue. These plantings are intended to flower in conjunction with Remembrance Day each year, creating an ongoing commemorative feature that further honours the significance of the site.
Final signage installation remains the last outstanding component of works within the avenue. Once the signage has been installed, all planned works for the project area within the Avenue itself will be complete.
Council will keep the community informed about the ceremony to be held later in the year.
