Moyne Shire Council is replacing trees in Mortlake’s Avenue of Honour to ensure it stands as a living memorial for generations to come.

The original trees, Monterey Cypress, had reached the end of their life and were posing a danger to the community.

A storm in January 2022 caused significant damage and Council removed the most dangerous trees - with the remaining WWII trees to be removed at a later date.

Heritage Victoria has issued a permit for the removal of the cypress trees and replanting with Holm Oaks. Replanting will begin in stages.
