FAQs
When will a new bridge be constructed?
The new bridge will be constructed when funds become available. Council has allocated $500,000 to undertake project planning works to define property boundaries, design modelling on effects of a new bridge on water flows, how and where to redirect services that are part of the current bridge structure including key telecommunications and water assets, and working through permit and approval requirements including cultural, heritage and a Marine and Coastal Act. This first step is now underway.
How long will it take to construct?
The bridge replacement construction timeframe is not yet known as the project will be undertaken as a design and construct contract with a qualified and experience bridge construction company. The replacement timeframe will be determined when the first stage Expression of Interest to open market has been undertaken and reviewed.
How is council going to manage residents, businesses, emergencies?
