What is the Environment and Sustainability Strategy?

This is a 10-year plan that will guide Moyne Shire Council’s actions and priorities in managing our environment and sustainability. It covers topics such as, protecting and enhancing our natural environment, supporting biodiversity, weed management, partnering with Traditional Owners, waste, recycling and circular economy, water use, urban planning, climate change, reducing Council emissions and land management.

    Why do this project now?

Our previous strategy is outdated, and the environmental challenges we face have grown. This strategy will help us align with the 2025-2029 Council Plan, community expectations, and regional, federal and state plans.

What’s included in the draft strategy?

The draft sets out focus areas, and actions across multiple environmental themes. It includes both Council-led initiatives and areas where we’ll work in partnership with others. It also outlines how we’ll track progress over time.

Will I get to see the results of the consultation?

Yes - once consultation closes, we’ll review all feedback and prepare a summary report. It will be published on our website and shared with Council. We’ll also show how community input has shaped the final strategy.

When will the final strategy be adopted?

Council is expected to consider the final strategy for adoption in the first half of 2026. We’ll notify the community once it’s been adopted and share the final version online.

What happens after the strategy is adopted?

The strategy will guide Council’s environmental projects, focus, priorities, partnerships, and budget decisions over the next decade. It will also be used to support grant applications, advocacy, and collaborations with community and other levels of government.

How can I get more information about the project?

The first place to look is this Engage Moyne page (https://engage.moyne.vic.gov.au/environment-and-sustainability-strategy). If you have any questions before or after the project has been completed, please don’t hesitate to contact Council on 1300 656 564.
